The Americans bought the Louisiana Purchase, partly land of the Pawnee, from Napoleon Bonaparte, a
European.
The Pawnee did not get along very well with the American settlers. Missionaries forced Pawnee to betray their ancestry and be like the white people. They wanted them to convert to Christianity. At first, the Pawnee allowed new settlers to pass into their land. The American settlers forcefully took the Pawnee’s land and wealth. In the industrial revolution, railroads were built on Pawnee lands. Then there was gold in California 1848. This caused more people to come into Pawnee lands. They killed their buffalos, which caused starvation.
